 | GQ Magazine |
 |
Simons maiden speech has been quoted in that top shelf lads mag GQ. He was explaining a visit he made to a company in the constituency who produced a machine which can prevent hair loss. One of the opposition began to heckle Simon shouting "really", (bad move sunshine) our quick witted MP came back with the reply "Its good - but not that good". The heckler was follicaly challenged Labourite Stephen Pound. The House collapsed with laughter, as did I. I am lucky enough to have the moment recorded. |

 | Silly season |
 |
Its the same every year, July and August everyone away on Holiday, no news. Reporters on daily newspaper must tear their hair ( nice phrase) out. Two days of sun after 10 days rain and still the aquifiers are empty, perhaps another hosepipe ban. Then along come UKIP, Lord Pearson of Rannoch resigns as leader and Mr Nigel (laugh alot cos I hate Belgians) Farage is probably going to take over again. Thank god the Silly Season is nearly over and the kids are going back to school. |

 | Expenses |
 |
You all probably remember our ex MP, whose name I forget and his expenses. Our new MP Simon Reevell has published on his website a running total of his claims. Novel - yes, open and above board - for sure, just as he promised all the way through the campaign - exactamundo. For those who doubted the veracity of parliamentarians, you can rest easy. |

 | Dewsbury Office |
 |
Monday 26th July. Dropped in at the Dewsbury office for the first time since the opening. Very interesting, everyone seemed to be hard at work, Nick seeing clients, Ed and Jim were eyes down and writing. In fact they were so busy they had no time to offer a coffee. So I asked my questions and left, I know they look after clients far better. Good luck guys , see you next week.

 | The Future of our association |
 |
To ensure to longevity of Dewsbury Conservative Association and that we have a continuing force in Westminster, an increase in membership is vital. This can be only done with the help of the current membership. We all have families - get your children, grandkids and in-laws to join the association, not just attend the odd fundraiser. A younger more vibrant membership will mean more activists on the ground during any and all elections. A bigger profile will encourage even more people wanting to be involved. What starts as a blood transfusion will become a heart transplant. What current members must understand is that we (including me) will not be here forever. In October I will be visiting schools in Mirfield together with a CF representative, talking to years 10, 11 and 12 encouraging them to join the party NOW. Remember these "kids" will be voters in a couple of years, plant the seeds early and improve the crop.
So lets get out into YOUR village, town and ward lets see YOUR membership increase NOW and you will reap the benefits of an early harvest. |

Simon headed off to Norwich North for the By-Election. It is always interesting to see how a by-election is run as the whole party swings behind one seat.
